Allocutio
Fr. Maher gave the Allocutio.
Heroic perseverance over a lifetime perpetuates the fulfillment of duty
by sacrifice that must be engaged. We may have difficulty identifying
with what we find in some saints. But because we have familiarity with
the Legion candidates for sainthood, we can use them as our models. We
should promote knowledge of their lives and spirituality. Consistency
and diligence in duty is what heroic sanctity is all about. This helps
us with the trials and tribulations of legionary duty. Although some of
the work that was done by the Legion saints was great and heroic, they
also did daily mundane works that were the foundation of legionary
duty. We need to do the ordinary before we can do the heroic.
