Allocutio
Fr. Peffley gave the Allocutio.
This is the year of the Eucharist, and we should focus on it by
promoting daily Mass and visits to the Blessed Sacrament. The Eucharist
is the source, center and summit of Christian Life. Here are some
things to promote it. When we go out on all assignments, talk about the
Eucharist. Also promote Sunday Mass. Promote confessions and Holy Days
of Obligation. Our Sunday Visitor has put out an excellent brochure,
“How to Celebrate the Year of the Eucharist.”
Plan to study the pope’s document on the Eucharist. It would
be
good to do this at the praesidium meetings. Another good brochure is
the “Infinite Value of the Mass.” Also promote
“When
you miss one Holy Communion,” by Fr. Willie Doyle. He
administered to the troops in World War I, and they found this writing
in his diary. Contact auxiliaries and get them to be
Adjutorians.
Promote Eucharistic Adoration and mention the churches that have them.
Promote diocesan events including the October Pilgrimage to the
National Shrine. Speak to all the classes of the children making First
Communion and give them a brown scapular and a monstrance pin. Use the
book “The Eucharist as an Instrument of Conversion”
to help
people to convert
